The freedom has to be in the works.

My mind set is abstract. I feel a strong connection to the freedom and possibilities non-figurative art offers. As I see it, reading emotion through abstraction, takes numerous paths by being free from predetermined set forms.

I am interested in the mind set of painters such as Frank Auerbach, De Kooning, Gerhard Richter and Soulages. 

My work is based on human emotional aspects, individually and collectively.

The painting process is a real struggle, but it is this struggle, that can be compelling and intriguing. It is a never-ending scrutiny, involving tedious time consumption, which again, is what develops my work. I try to develop new ways of expressing colour and composition; by continuously changing the way I approach the canvas. 

It is the total equation in a work that has to be resolved, where a minor twitch, can alter or even destroy, the whole entity of the work in progress. Accepting the likely probability to grind to a halt, I challenge myself, not hesitating to abort a painting, in order to move on, in a new direction. 

The result I hope to achieve is longevity in each work, giving it the necessary depth to support the entity. Because of this, it will protrude something new, hopefully.

I started to paint in 2001, mentored by artist Sverre Schyberg-Olsen. In 2002 I set up my own studio and from that day on, I set about to challenge the abstract visual language in my own way.

Giving up – never. To destroy, yes. Often. In fact, more often than not.
